Expanding and bettering their firm’s services are goals that all business owners strive to achieve. So when the opportunity arose for exclusive and innovative clinic Alpha Clinic to acquire fellow established cosmetic rejuvenation firm Innocent Aesthetics, it was far too great to dismiss.

Situated in the private and opulent setting of Albyn Terrace in Aberdeen, the owners of Alpha Clinic – Leah and Dr Thanassi (Consultant Plastic Surgeon) Athanassopoulos – invested a six-figure sum to launch their surgery earlier this year. This led to the duo purchasing Innocent, a move that Innocent owner Jan Leiper-Whiteford, welcomed with open arms.

Leah said: “We had planned to expand non-surgical aesthetics in the business over the next 12 months. But the opportunity arose and after a few months of discussions, we had reached an agreement. “Jan has built up a large and successful business with loyal clients and a well-trained team, so we are delighted to welcome them on board, strengthen Alpha Clinic and offer our patients the ultimate surgical and non-surgical journey.” The acquisition will see all five members of staff from Innocent Aesthetics move across to Alpha Clinic next month.

The amount of treatments available at the clinic will expand. These treatments – including procedures for skin cancer, nose and breast reconstruction, burn injuries and much more – are all supported with premium evidence-based technology to deliver the safest procedures available on the aesthetic market. Jan, who is an Independent Nurse Prescriber, launched Innocent Aesthetics in 2005 following a career in adult nursing, qualifying from Robert Gordon University in 2002 where she worked in cardiothoracic and coronary care in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary before starting her training in aesthetics in Oxford.

Jan said: “I grew the business over the past 15 years to 8,500 clients. However it had reached a stage where I had to branch out to expand the services, so it was a natural progression to find a complementary business to join forces with. “Dr Athanassopoulos and Leah understand my clinic ethos, the importance of client safety and delivering patient-focused care and supporting patients through their surgical or aesthetic journey. “It was immediately evident that we are on the same wavelength and focused on the client and putting the patient first.

“The timing of the deal has been perfect and we are looking forward to moving our staff and business across to Alpha Clinic. “Experienced nurses working alongside a respected surgeon – Dr Athanassopoulos – gives patients reassurance that we have a medical team in-house that is controlled and governed by Health Improvement Scotland, as well as adhering to our governing bodies the General Medical Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.”

Dr Athanassopoulos, who studied at Oxford University and Kings College in London, has been a practising plastic surgeon for more than a decade. He has worked in the UK, as well as Holland, Austria and New Zealand, specialising in plastic surgery, and continues to work as an NHS consultant at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Dr Athanassopoulos added: “Despite being closed during the global pandemic of Covid-19, we were able to do virtual consultations enabling us to retain a steady flow of clients prepared for their final consultation when lockdown was lifted.

“It has been a busy few months for us since reopening and we have been inundated with bookings since the restrictions were lifted. “I have had to focus purely on surgical aesthetics and it was becoming clear that many of my patients were looking for additional non-surgical treatment, so bringing in a team of experts allows us to provide everything our patients need under one roof.” Innocent Aesthetics will close its premises on Great Western Road and relocate its staff and equipment to Albyn Terrace in late September to operate under the Alpha Clinic brand.
